Using Iphone to take credit card payments?

I'm looking into methods of taking payments and was considering hiring a pdq machine but I've heard that you can take payment with an iphone and an app for this, I can't find anything to say whether this service is available in the UK though. Does anybody know anything about it, whether it's available in the UK and which app is best?

Thanks

Yes you can take card payment with an iphone and any basic mobile phone as long as it is Java enabled and I have been using it for about 10 years. If you look at the mpos demo on youtube that should help you. I have found it very useful especially for doing busines at shows and for taking card payments over the phone.

Java has nothing to do with it, and the iPhone doesn't run Java.

Looks good. Been considering a card payment terminal for my new business and this looks like a cheap option.
However - you will still need a merchant account with an aquiring bank which it is advised you arrange before getting the app!

Might not be as cheap an option as I had first thought but at least you haven't got a terminal to loose - just keep a close eye on your phone!

Thanks for the heads-up on this, much appriciated.

The one you have probably heard of is https://squareup.com/ which looks pretty neat but I think its US only, as sysops says forget any java based solutions they wont work you need a native iphone app.

I was wondering if things have moved on since the original poster first asked his question. I'm in the same boat so would like to ask the question again.
What services are there now for the iPhone and who provides the best service and best rates?
