  • Why I became a Copywriter...Target. Persuade. Sell More. Nov 7, 2013

    The Story So Far...

    Writing for business is challenging, rewarding, and I live for words that sell. I just sit at my desk, with Word and Internet Explorer, sip my coffee, and create copy that no business can afford not to have, and targets cannot ignore. So, where did it all begin?

    Copywriting - the business "dark art" - came into my sphere of reality back in 2010, when I was still at University studying English Literature and Media Production. I had previously completed courses in Creative Writing, Fiction Writing, and Journalism, and I was heading for a career with the written word in some way or other.

    Over the years, I had published writing in Aviation News, Writers' Forum, True Detective, TLF, Blesmag, and PC Pilot magazines. I created a magazine for British Airways Virtual (2009 - 2010), and found creating for others' success rewarding.

    In The Beginning

    I had been searching for some Freelance work to support myself and to provide me with some "play" money, when I stumbled on a Diploma in Copywriting course. I had often thought that businesses could do better with their written communications, and this area of writing appeared to offer me a purpose with a much-needed sense of satisfaction.

    I enrolled on and completed the course. I found I had a talent for writing to persuade and immensely enjoyed the work. I found new clients through friends and family, which gave me the experience and the practice.

    As Time Passes

    Since then, I have read many books on Marketing, PR, Sales, SEO, and other aspects of the writing craft to enhance my skill set. I have never looked back.

    Over the last few years, I have worked with many businesses in the UK including Rewards Training, Sussex Downs College, ICAL TEFL, The Amazing Exhibitionists,,, and EO Burton. I was invited to Copy Edit three articles for Aviation News magazine this year (2013), which was a fantastic experience.

    I also took part in PC Pilot magazine's fundraising efforts helping to raise US$15,000 in the summer, and I was mentioned in their publication.

    I have met many interesting people along the way and have managed to help their businesses - some achieving 70% conversion rates - , which I find truly satisfying and rewarding.

    My Writing Skills

    I write slogans, marketing messages, competitions, adverts, mailshots, brochures, advertorials, promotions, scripts for TV/radio adverts, Web pages, leaflets, social media content, Blog content, etc.,. Once I receive your brief, I set to work during weekdays, evenings, weekends, and over long hours.

    Any business can target their communications using my services to persuade and encourage their potential customers to buy from them. With the right words, in the right order, and presented in the right way, all businesses can grow their sales figures and enhance their position in the marketplace.
