YEM HELPS ENTREPRENEURS TURN DREAMS INTO REALITY​

YEM – The Essential Resource for Entrepreneurs - has announced its involvement in ‘Don’t Just Dream It’ – a competition aimed at potential entrepreneurs across Merseyside – as a major media partner.

Don’t Just Dream It was first launched in 2005 in an attempt to recognise the region’s longstanding culture of enterprise and initiative. YEM is the main media partner and alongside Business Link, Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, Liverpool John Moores University, Radio City 96.7 attended the official launch of the 2006 competition at a glitzy event on Wednesday 26th July at the Pan American Club in Liverpool.

Colin Ling, head of Business Link’s enterprise team said, “This area has a rich history of generating many dynamic companies, both large and small. Last year’s competition produced an incredibly strong clutch of proposals and we’re confident that this year will be no different.”

The idea of the competition is to encourage potential businessmen and women of any age or background to turn their dreams into reality. Last year’s competition saw more than 140 people from across the area write a short outline of their idea for a new business, in the hope of winning the ‘Don’t Just Dream It’ trophy and £2,000 in cash.

This year, the competition returns in an attempt to find a further generation of new business ideas. “Many people have ideas for firms but simply lack the finance, confidence or know-how to get them off the ground,” added Colin. Lucy Hamlin, YEM Coordinator said “When we were approached by Business Link, we were excited and pleased to be the first choice. We are passionate about enterprise and are proud to be the official media partners of this event. It is a fantastic way of encouraging people to put pen to paper and take the first step into turning those dreams into reality. YEM encourages people to get out there and do it, so this competition is the perfect platform to allow people to do that.”

As a social enterprise project and a business resource, YEM is always looking at ways to help the small business community to become more sustainable and the team is happy to get involved in events such as this. “We are creating a Community of Opportunity for small businesses, and are really trying to create sustainability in this fierce market.” Added Lucy, “By being part of events such as ‘Don’t just Dream It,’ we hope to allow people to get that start that they need at the beginning.”
