    Hi

We will be taking orders and payments online for food which we will deliver and later expand by taking payments for products to be distributed nationally.

    Does anyone recommend particular ones?

    thanks a lot

It seems there are as many favourites as there are shopping carts around here, Marcy.

My own favourite is Zen cart as it has tons of flexibility, modules to do just about anything and is easily configurable and easy to manage once set up. It has so many templates to choose from you can make it look how you like without having to do any new design work, just about. The project forked from osCommerce a few years ago and is now, in my opinion, not only miles ahead of its progenitor but continues to improve.

We are also keeping a close watch on Magento, a newcomer which we feel has a little way to go for the inexperienced but is very good nevertheless.

If the order is made up of any number of products or if you are offering some type of bundle then nearly any shopping cart should do the job. All depends on what you want to do :)

I'd like to put us forward if you are looking for a hosted solution.
We have just set-up another food web shop and they are extremely happy with the results.
PM me if you'd like the URL, They aren't trading yet.

Another one to consider is CRE loaded. Like Zen Cart its a development of OSCOmmerce with loads of mods installed. There are free and paid for verions & definatly worth a look

    Hi Chris

My partner will look at the suggestions we get from here as he is more technical than I am, customers will order online from the menu so I want something that looks good with very user friendly features.

    Marcy,

have a look at testacart.com, where you can play with several of the major 'free' releases.

CREloaded, that I use a lot, is going through a transition phase at the moment, so, normally i recomend, at the moment I say hold!

We have several users doing just that, here are some examples:
    The Cake Store
    Spices of India
    Elizabeth Botham & Sons

To be honest, unless you have some unusual requirements, most shopping cart programs will provide what you need.

It may be worth looking at payment providers first and deciding which one would best suit your business, because pricing and price structure varies a lot. Then you can look for a cart that supports the payment gateway you want to use.

    Hi,

If you want a total solution that delivers a web front end linking into say your stock/pricing then we can help.

The benefit of linking to a Sage backend is that your stock/price data is sucked up onto the website and sales data in pushed down into Sage for you to process.

It may be a bit more expensive but it will handle expansion really well and save you alot of time.

Call me on 01189 272700 if you need a chat.

    Regards
    Steve Carter

I'd like to put us out there - take a look at pagebuzz.com.

In any case, it really depends on whether you're looking for a system that you will manange yourself or a system that someone else (e.g., your web guy) will manage for you.

Whichever system you chose, make sure you look at the demo!

A worth while ecommerce package that works great is magento which we offer to customize to meet the needs of the customers requirements.

Or if something like ZenCart, FoxyCart, osCommerce or Magento is'nt good enough or what you are looking for then we can build an ecommerce system from the ground up uniquely for you.
