I'm searching for jobs online in London and (no word of a lie), every other job is 'Trainee recruitment consultant'. Whats going on? is there a genuine shortage?! or is there some new scam doing the rounds?

Recruitment consultants or "sales people" for want of a better description, work in a very high pressured, target orientated environment. It's not surprising they are constantly seeking fresh blood as staff turnover is usually very high.

Im in the same position Spiritus. I found that there was even a market for a recruitment company recruiting FOR recruitment jobs - The recruitment market is growing so quickly that companies like Blue Arrow and Acorn are more than happy to pay quite a lot for a good new employee, even if they have no recruitment experience.

James,

Don't get me thinking about it or I'll get all giddy again !

hmmmm agency pays employee £ 9.00 per hour for office job. Agency charges employer £ 15.00 per hour AND this is the market rate is often higher than this !!!

Based on a 37.5 hr week the agency makes a profit of £ 225 per week just for one person on their books. Thinking conservatively, try and place another 4 candidates in jobs at the same rates and that's £ 1125 profit per week.

Don't employ any staff-make the phone calls from your bedroom. Buy a nice suit and some business cards for client meetings. Overheads = petrol and phone calls.

I think I need to lie down in a darkened room !
