Hello,

Apologies if this is in the wrong area. I've been asked to write a short essay regarding the financial objectives of a local swimming pool/gym venue.

Now the venue in question is owned by the council, therefore what type of company would this be classed as, I imagine a 'Government-Owned Corporation'?

Just looking for clarification.

It depends how it is run. It could be directly run by the local authority, in which case it would be classed as a 'local council service' or the council could have let the running of the service to a contractor in which case it could be run by a 'not for profit' or 'commercial organisation'.

    Usual formats...

    Local Authority Service
    Not-for-profit management company
    Private Sector management company
    Arms Length Management Company (ALMC)

An ALMC is usually a company limited by guarantee wholly owned by a local council or government agency
