What ISP's let you use multiple e-mail addresses?

I'm having some problems with Wanadoo at the moment regarding adding a new business e-mail address that I got from my hosting company.
I have put in all the details into outlook but when I try to send and receive I get a message saying wanadoo blocks "port 25" I have called them and they say they don't support multiple/other e-mail address other than there own.

Anyone got any recommendations for an ISP that won't do this.

These ISP's don't block port 25 - another option is to ask your host if they can open another EXIM port to get around the blocking (usually port 26), Some host's will be willing to do this and some won't...

Hi

Ask your Hosting company if there email server supports and other ports, my hosting company used to support port 26 as well as 25 for email for exactly this problem

You never know :)

Plus net is a very good provider. I was going to go with them when I moved but NTL made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

(The rentensions department gave me 2meg, no port restrictions for 12.50 pm for a year)

webit - it's good to know all the best providers - NTL don't service my area can I ask a few questions about them?

do NTL have 24/7 phone support?
would people need to specify no port restrictions?
Do they have an online control panel for the broadband with speed tests etc
And do they disconnect the broadband connection after a period (say 2 hrs) of inactivity?
Do they display their contention ratio and if so what is it?

Plus net are a mix of the above depending on the package people buy - but I guess these are key questions to ask when moving broadband provider to ensure you don't jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.

you might find that they just block other outgoing mail servers other than their own.

Try using their outgoing mail server in your settings and see if that works. ( maybe mail.wanadoo.co.uk ? )

I have some clients that use wanadoo and this works for them on multiple mail addresses.

More and more ISP's are blocking port 25 to help reduce spamming

I think you're referring to the BT post above?
If so - for those customers on a fixed IP they are allowing other outgoing mailservers, for those on a dynamic IP the customers are having to ring and add the domain they want to send from to BT's authourised list - else they have to use their BT address in the reply address of the email which is useless for a business.

We do supply another authenticated port though which also bypasses the problem but creates another i.e. how to get clients to change their settings :)

nope, my provider also blocks port 25 but by using their outgoing mail server I have no problems with 20+ mail accounts. All other settings remain the same.

I have found this to be more and more common and by changing only the outgoing mail server setting to that of the ISP it seems to work OK. I have not found a provider yet that blocks port 25 that this does not work for.....

Yes this is the same for me too.

But like I said above (and the reason Greig posted) SOME ISP's are only allowing their email addresses through their mail servers as well as blocking port 25.

I think the main people hit are small businesses who have purchased a cheaper consumer orientated broadband connection rather than opt for business broadband - which of course takes into account there will be a business email address.

Changing the outgoing mail server will not affect the "from" settings that the receiver of the mail sees, it can only be seen that wanadoo was used by looking in the mail headers of the mail which hardly anyone does....

Ok - well I found a provider for you - I don't know what their website says BUT i've literally just put the phone down from a chat with one of their engineers.

BT Broadband have recently blocked all 3rd party domain mail from 3rd party servers going through their SMTP servers UNLESS 1. The whois on the domain matches the account details BT have or 2. The account holder calls them and request to have their name added to BT's list of domains allowed to send mail through their servers.

The engineer explained they have been getting into trouble with spam recently and have had a massive crackdown in the last couple of weeks and are tightening their systems up.

As BT provide all of the broadband throughout the UK (to my knowledge anyway) we can expect others to follow.

As Far as I know
Phone Support - yes but I've never had to use it.
I always check ports available as I need to use MSTS etc
CPanal - nope
Disconnections - never
The contension figure is lower on cable than on ADSL (I think) but anyway it hasn't been a problem.

BTW I use the NTL mail server quite a bit for sending out mailshots to webit.net members and theres never been a problem (yet!)ter

The pop 3 is set to: mail.f1-aircharter.com thats what I was provided with from the hosting company.

The guy who made my website tried all the sttings on his computer and gets them no problem.

For those still looking for ISPs that allow/support multiple email addresses off one hostname, check out any of the brands owned or run by Brightview Ltd. Some of their brands also allow you to set up multiple mailboxes, and the majority of their brands are subscription-free - great for a start-up.

I used to work for Brightview and I still recommend their brands to people that ask me because they employ staff who give a ????. They've also recently moved their call centre from India as well!

also, make sure you are using the full mail address as the username, by default outlook only adds the part before the @ but you should use the full address.
