What is more beneficial SEO or PPC ?

Your revenue streams can immediately driven by ppc and the money you invest there. However for the brand awareness and the site visibility SEO is a must. I would say both SEO and PPC should go hand in hand. Also don't forget social media. That improves your brand value which you may not be able to measure in a tangible way.

I have installed live monitoring tool for people visiting my websites and I have done alot of SEO for all of my websites plus I'm running PPC. That tools shows me how much I'm wasting on PPC and how many links with SEO are working because it shows which website referred the visitor and to which page each visitors landing. I always had doubt on Google Adwords so I made a special page where I direct my Google Adwords clicks on /google page, trust me if I select "Search based" in Google Adwords I hardly get 5 click in a day however I have now selected "Network Search" and it gives me around 30 or 40 clicks out of which 3 or 4 works for me I get paid through them so I don't mind if rest of my clicks are just waste because I know everyone who is clicking my link in sponsored section will not buy but just enquire.

so the bottom line is that for me SEO and PPC works combine effort makes my business keep going.

SEO is definitely beneficial if you're just starting out. If you find that you're making a profit with PPC, really if you think about it your best bet is to buy as many ads as possible. Not a lot to lose there. I also like to use PPC early on even if I don't make much profit because of it, just because it's psychologically motivating. If I'm not going to make money either way, I'd rather have some sales than no sales.

Both are equally beneficial. SEO is good for generating quality back-links to your website and PPC helps you to have conversions. So it depends what do you want. If just want pageranking traffic then SEO is good, If you instantly want to sell your products go for PPC That's it.:)

SEO is for longer term results and PPC is shorter term results, so if you're just starting out you're going to need PPC to get sales. Invest in SEO for the longer term.

Also if you're getting into a highly competitive market there's no way you're going to get anywhere any time soon with SEO, so PPC is the only way to go.

About competitive markets? If you find yourself getting into a niche where the top 10 sites have been around for years and years, and have a massive amount of authority and incoming links, you're not really going to be able to compete with a brand new website. It might not be a market you want to get into if you've got stiff competition but let's say you've got an innovative new product and you want to risk it? If your choice is PPC or SEO then it's a no brainer.

My real life experience...

18 months ago we launched our new education revision site and I set myself a budget of £20.00 per day on Pay Per Click. I've stuck to that.

We have always tried to do the right, ethical things with SEO.

In the early months over 50% of our visitors were coming from Pay Per Click. Now less than 15% of our visitors come from Pay Per Click.

The Pay Per Click still bring in about the same amount of customers and still show the same, worthwhile return on investment. But I just love that increasing percentage of customers who are coming to us free of charge because of our SEO efforts!

Hope that helps,

Colin

Depends what your mean by beneficial. PPC can give you instant and measurable traffic but this doesn't mean throwing money at it will get you customers. Proper keyword research, split ad testing and quality ad writing are all needed for a successful campaign.

SEO requires the same measured approach to get anywhere.

But back to the question:

If you've got a medium-large budget, go for both and get someone who knows what they're doing to help you get results.

If you've got a small budget - just focus on SEO, it'll get you where you need to be. PPC can be added at a later date to help drive more traffic but the sooner you get someone sorting your on and off page SEO out the sooner you'll see a return on your investment.

I'd say SEO is more powerful in the current climate. In search marketing it's better to be the hunted than the hunter. Keep your keywords and content relevant but don't stuff. Theres a really good keyword tool called Jaaxy which has helped me loads with my SEO.
PPC marketing on Facebook is really effective from my experience.

I have been running an online marketing website for the last 2 months. The increase in my web traffic has come from both camapigns for organic SEO AND PCC although, as has been said, both are beneficial.

PPC offers a quick option to gain users to your site where as SEO is a much slower process. Perhaps explore link building as a tool to increase your SEO longer term but utilize PPC initially to generate traffic.

Getting a good natural SEO result can take time buy once you have that position it is not a cost. It is free.
With PPC you have to pay per click.
So ideally you want to work on getting a good natural search result and also use PPC for instant exposure to potential customers.

All the best.

I'm staggered that only one person in all the threads has touched on the competitiveness of certain keywords! Yes, both PPC and SEO are great in their own individual ways, combined or used separately, but the application of how they are used are so individual to each and every business.

If you're in insurance for example, you're deluded to think that you will ever get on page one of google for car insurance (trust me!) So SEO would, in this case, be rendered useless. No matter what long term strategy you use, as an amateur SEO'er you have no chance!

If you target the same keyword in PPC, yes the CPC is going to be high but you will soon figure out if you can establish a worthwhile ROI. Obviously we could get into the longer tail keywords which dilutes the competition but likewise it also dilutes the CPC cost as well.

However, 60% of people in this forum will be in a niche or looking to geographically target customers and this is where the on and off page optimisation will pay dividends in the long run!

Also I know its been mentioned in other threads, but before running any sort of SEO strategy, check the validity of the keyword by using PPC to assess whether or not the keyword you're thinking of targeting has any traffic. Free traffic analysis tools are great but they also pull in some longer tail keywords and phrase terms in the results so its worth spending £50 to see if the impressions are really there!

So, in answer to the original question what is more beneficial SEO or PPC? The business sector you're in makes a huge influence on which is best. Use the simple strategy to validate keywords which will see you good for both PPC and SEO then scale up!

absolutely depends on your service or product in my mind.....

if your selling something niche, high price that vary, so someone is gonna look at a good few sites for best price then its seo all day hoping that a top 5 position will get you rolling, if its something where your selling price is the same as most or its a bit of an impulse buy then its probably PPC.

I'm niche in what i do an i'm top of natural positioning selling the same amount of goods as the guy whos top of ppc and uses all googles sales streams, should i do both?? maybe, will i steal all his competition...no, i'd just be paying thousands every month to be 3 positions higher against my small outlay to upkeep positioning

The key thing is that google are trying to nullify the effect of "doing seo" and trying to let "good" webiste rank higher, so rather than doing SEO or PPC, make a really nice website with lots of good content/pictures with the right tags and make something people will like and use. Google are getting more and more strict with SEO practices and this is only going to get stricter as they put in algorithms to define what is a good or bad site. Think of all the practices in the past which now harms a website ranking.
My advice (and it is not worth much i know) is to build as nice a website as you can afford, ensure that you can put content on it yourself. Yes make sure it is all done as "correctly as you can" and that will see you right in the long term. PPC may see you right in the short term.
Someone's analogy of SEO being like dating and PPC is like paying for sex is pretty spot on
