Website not ready, should i stick page up

I have heard its best even if you're site is not ready, to have a page up with some lines of text.
Is this correct? Google looks more favourably on older sites?
If i do this, is there anything i need to consider?

Thanks for any response

I would recommend sticking up a holding page saying 'site coming soon' or something along those lines.
Firstly you'll start accumulating domain age and secondly you can actually start link building activity to the homepage, which should give you a bit of a headstart when you put the site live.

Totally agree - this is something I do all the time! I have left projects like that for months until I am ready to use the name.

Thanks for this.

I registered a couple of domains aprox a year ago; jackhappy.co.uk and jackhappy.com

Back then I played about with the co.uk and put it up on the web (total blank page)

I want to use the .com domain, which has not been up on the web. Is there anyway i can capitalize on the co.uk for my .com
I am moving the .com to U.S servers

Your co.uk doesn't really have any value as there are no links to it, the domain is just been online, like you said its just a blank page. If you had built links to it and done minor seo then yes it could of had value for your .com.

Best thing to do is always get a domain online, put up some content and build some links - this will help when you come to develop the site in the future.

Hope this helps?

I wouldn't bother with the 'coming soon' line of text, but I would certainly not leave it blank with no page on there at all! At the very least, I would expect to put up business contact information, a bit about the company and some images.

Any reason for moving the .com to US servers? Are you pointing one domain to the other, or having different content on both?

My market is international rather than national and the U.S could be a good bulk of that market. It's arguable, but it seems it's worth hosting the site in the country you are targeting
I would like to have servers eventually on both sides of the water.
