Greetings,

New here and wanted to ask a question.

I was thinking about starting up a gaming review website, similar to these ones

mmorpg.com/
1up.com/
computerandvideogames.com/
gametrailers.com/
uk.gamespot.com/
worldofraids.com

Was just woundering if anyone is familiar with the video gamign sector, is it worth setting up or are there far to many, or is it more sensible to focus on a game like world of warcraft, cod etc and dedicate the site around that?.

thanks for any help you can provide.

Start a blog focusing on a small genre. Or a video/cartoon blog like zero-punctuation

If people like your writing style then maybe consider going larger. People are more likely to go on YOUR reviews if they identify with you on a personal level.

You could make a huge database website with hundreds of reviews but if you don't have any credibility then no-body will care.

p.s. good reviewers rarely give anything a good review

Hello, thank you for the reply. I am not thinkign about a blog at all, except maybe incorparting one into thje site. i am looking to build a fully functional site, and hire a few creative writers to write articles, reviews etc for me. With this I am looking to build a professional site like the ones I have listed. So thats why I am asking if anyone has experincve with these and if its worth it.

Yes and I agree reviews are all subjective:).

too much competition, not enough money in it in my opinion. Would need to offer other services such as servers etc to make it pay. I used to write reviews for Jolt and knew some of the owners who had a hard time keeping the business operational even though the website was very popular at the time. I wrote reviews for free (got to play the latest games and keep them though)

So your plan is to build a fully functioning, huge website with a team of content writers..before you've found out whether its a viable business?

The blog would be your "proof of concept"

Also you didn't understand what I said. I said that for anyone to give a damn about what you say you need a good reputation. A reputation is built and earned over time.

If people like your style, great. If they don't, then you have potentially wasted £50,000 on a website
