Video editing software recommendation

For Windows I would suggest looking at Adobe Premiere Elements as it is very powerful and quite intuitive when starting out. I have used it to make a number of YouTube tutorials quite successfully (and relatively quickly too!).

I quite like Pinnacle Studio, but that may be out of habit, I certainly haven't conducted an extensive comparison or review of competing products. I've been using the latest version quite recently (on Vista and Windows 7). You can download a free trial version from the Pinnacle website.

Windows Movie Maker for XP/Vista is one of those dead-end products from Microsoft that wont go further than Vista. For Windows 7, Microsoft dropped it for a different product called Windows Live Movie Maker which isn't backwards compatible with the previous version and is lacking in some features.

We use a bunch of video editing software for my wifes business and it to some extent depends on what you are wanting to do. The big hitters are all mentioned above but there a few others you may want to consider:

Kdenlive - http://www.kdenlive.org/
Free, linux video editor. Will do pretty much anything the commercial ones will do and without the pricetag

TmpGenc DVD Authoring Works
Mainly a tool for creating DVDs but if that is your target media and you want something that practically holds your hand, does the job for you and then makes you a cup of tea and a sarnie afterwards, this is cracking. Demo available as well so you can assess.

Hope it helps
Marcus
