Following extensive research, I’ve come to the conclusion that I ‘probably’ don’t need to pay VAT on coffee sold online (as far as I can tell, VAT on coffee is specific to the hot drink). However, I want to be certain... does anyone know whether online coffee sales (instant coffee, ground coffee, coffee beans) are subject to VAT? Thanks, Peter
Last I looked yes they are subject to vat. At 0%. Been a while, you maybe want to Google the current rates. Or indeed the rates come January.
Online sales will be zero rated. Scroll down here to para 3.72. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/food-products-and-vat-notice-70114#general-food-products
Yes you will need to submit a VAT return regularly. You will be able to recover any VAT your business incurs in the course of selling the goods.
