Solar thermal is already providing baseline power in Spain far cheaper and easier than storing in batteries then using that to heat.
Do you have a hot water tank in your house? That stores heat instead of charging a battery to run a hot water heater on demand.
There are solar powered hot water tanks. Generate heat in day,store in tank,tap when you need it.
Norway has water tank heat storage on the grid.
