    Hi there,

I was wondering if anybody has any info regarding tyre recycling businesses (i.e where scrap tyres can be sold on and in what form are they most valuable)?

Any info would be much appreciated.

I would expect that disposing of scrap tyres would be a cost to you and not a source of income

not so apparently - a charge can be made to collect scrap tyres from tyre depots and they can then be baled/compacted and sold to be used in house foundations:)

I've heard that making them is a very expensive process so I think baling the tyres for construction is a more realistic option for me.

Does anybody know about this sector? Is there much demand for tyre bales at the moment in the building industry?

    Thanks all.

Tyre recycling is big business, because the problem of disposing of old tyres is huge - they just pile up endlessly!

There are a variety of places to take them and uses to which they can be put, and a short amount of research should turn a few up. Then you need to go and see the places, and understand how the financials work.

You will also need to understand fully the precise regulations on waste collection, storage, and transfer. This aspect is important. You cannot just put tyres on a truck and ship them about with no proper records. There are systems out there that will handle the whole thing and keep the environmental records that are required.

Yes I've looked at the govt. website concerning all the paper work surrounding this. I need to be registered as a waste carrier.

Advice on the next step? Thinking I should contact local building contractors to see if there's much demand for baled tyres?

A friend of mine collects them and sends them to China for recylcing. There are quite a few companies up and running already doing this same thing, so I would check out your competition.

China is a huge recycler of plastic and rubber. most of the Tshirts that are made of polyester, or a certain kind of it, are actually made of recycled PET bottles. I'm sure they are equally as crafty with tyres. I don't mind at all, let them, we can't be producing so much plastic and rubber without trying to recycle as much as we can.

A good idea is to get them re-vented. Many people are sending to China, they import everything there, so i think there is room for one business too there..

You can sell them as second. There are always people who cant buy new tyre and go fo used ones..( if they can be used anymore ! )
