    Top Careers in WHSmith

Since January 2005 a local Physics teacher has been working on a new educational enterprise. The aim of her business was to develop fun educational card games for schools. Over four thousand games have been distributed all over the country since. But for the first time one of her games will be available from WHSmith in the Ilford Exchange.

Mrs Eiman Munro, qualified as a Physics teacher in 2004. After working for Woodbridge High School, she become pregnant and had a baby girl. It was whilst on maternity leave that she decided to work on creating educational resources that were fun for the pupils and ready made for the teachers. She has already won three awards including an innovation award from the London Development Agency for her newly launched card game called "Top Careers in Science".

The new game will now be available to purchase in WHSmith, Ilford Exchange Mall. "I am so pleased that the local store manager has agreed to take the games on a trial basis", Eiman explains "this will allow the general public to access these games which are at the moment purchased by schools and teachers".

Is it hard to get WHSmiths etc to stock items at a local level? When I used to manage a couple of bands HMV/ Virgin/ Fopp etc were all more than happy enough to stock our CDs in the local stores.

    Thanks for the support.

Astra - When I called the head quarters for WHSmith they told me that all their branches had local funding to purchase off local businesses at the discretion of the store manager. So I just called the store manager sent him a sample and he told me that their funding ran out. However, I asked for the opportunity to base it on a no sale no buy arrangement. The intention is to test the commercial market as I sell directly to schools.

Nice to see a lot of locals too!

    Good idea! Will do.

I just couldn't believe that I was quoted on flogging my toys at age 10 'del boy' style...I laughed when I read it. I did say it, just bantering on and forgot it was all on record!

I'm told it's near the counter where the Top Trumps games are. The more people ask about them the better!

Yes the trick 'make them feel comfortable, then get them when they least realise'!

Oh well, I knew at the back of my mind that whatever I said would be on record but just slipped! Anyway, it's a little on the funny side but I don't know if it's appropriate in the context of things.

Well done, that really is a fantastic achievment. I'll pop-in and make sure I ask where I can find them next time I'm in Ilford.

I saw them today! Not sure if that's good or bad as I would have rather them said "yes they flew off our shelves" !!! lol

Well, it was exciting to see my games priced up and placed on the shelves in WHSmith. I'll ask to take a photo of them. Did anyone see my scary face in the Ilford Recorder...the Wanstead and Woodford Guardian did a better peice in my opinion. Oh well beggers can't be choosers :)
