I've owned a hair and beauty salon for over 20 years (currently employing 7 staff) and, like the vast majority of small employers, have witnessed countless legal changes affecting every aspect of business operation and management. All too often I feel like a Jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none. It's simply not affordable to buy in all the specialist advice I need so I spend a lot of time educating myself (as best I can) and pay for the essentials - which for me means a reputable accountant and membership of a recognised trade body such as the National Hairdressers Federation (a useful resource for news, advice, pro-forma documentation and, last-but-not-least, a reliable legal help line). Google has often led me to this forum and I have found it very useful. Maybe I might even drum up courage to share a little of my own experience as well as greedily soak-up expert knowledge oozing out of lots of clever brains!
