Thoughts on second hand items ..

I have quite alot of contact with parents, mothers in particular, who would be interested in purchasing quality second hand clothing from my website (have been asking around). It's something that would be no problem for me to do, but I am a bit concerned that it will take away the professionalism of my site. What do you think ?

You might be ok as long as you can clearly separate the used and new areas, which may be tricky if you start categorising the used items. Could you create a separate site, or area for the used stuff, and link to it from a 'used' category in your existing site?

Yes, the ideal would be a seperate site to do this. As it would probably require different marketing etc. I don't have the finances at the moment to do this, so was going to have a Section entitled Pre-Loved Clothing and just catergorise for boys and girls.

 

My wife already buys clothing off a couple of different used clothing sites. The idea works if the clothing is normally designer or unusual stuff. I don't think there is a market for general clothing as most people would buy this from ebay or car boot sales (i.e - baby vests, rompers etc).
Things like dresses, outfits and christening wear are always sought after.

as a further thought - our daughter aged 9 is very very slim and long legged and my wife can't find trousers to fit her anywhere. As kids grow quickly, any trousers we could find will be soon grown out of and so the problem arises again! Is this a sort of market you could consider?

Not standard sized children ? I think most are not the "regular" size tbh !! I do sell a few things from Gap that are slim fitting with inside waist adjustments. On the opposite end of the scale I know there are so many reports about children being obsese in this country. There would probably be a good market for larger fitting clothes for children too.
