    Hi,

I have just received my activation code for self assessment.

I have not sold or bought anything for my sole trader company yet.

I am also working a 9-5 for someone else who I pay tax which there accountant calculates and I pay each month.

Do I still need to do my tax return? I only registered as self employed Jan/Feb 2019.
    Thank you

Have HMRC sent you a notice to file a tax return? If they have, you'll get an automatic penalty if you don't file it.

As above have HMRC actually asked you to complete one, there should also be details in your on line account when your next return is due

If HMRC have issued a notice to file, but you have nothing to declare, then you could request withdrawal under TMA 1970 S8B, though you may find it easier just to file.

If HMRC have not sent you a notice to file, then you need do nothing.

I will file it. The confusing part was do I need to list my 9-5 as well. I'm pressuming they should already know that as I pay tax through my employer. It was asking how many employers and I wasnt sure how many to list. My 9-5 job and me as being self employed.

You need to include everything on your Tax Return. It isn't a selective document, but is a complete Return of income and reliefs for tax purposes.
