    Hi all

Looking at SumUp which seems well used by businesses such as ours (a charity).

Need it running by next Saturday. They say the readers come in 2-3 days.

Then we need to get 'authorised'. Anyone know what that means or how long it takes?

Also wondering how many readers we can have and whether they have to be within blue-tooth range of a phone with the app. Or is the range indefinite if on the same WiFi system?

Thanks for any help: their website is a masterpiece of generality afaict.

They are nifty little devices, and very good value for money in my opinion.

You can have multiple readers, but (assuming you are talking about the SumUp Air) each one will need to be used with a different phone/tablet to operate at the same time. They work by Bluetooth so must be within range of the phone/tablet they are linked to to operate.

The authorisation is the standard ‘anti money laundering’ checks and they provide an online platform to upload your documentation - this should be done within 24 hours if you have the correct docs to hand. There is a trading limit of about £1000 that you can trade up to before being authorised, at which point your account is restricted but gives you a bit of breathing room initially.

Toolstation sell all of SumUp’s devices, (at the same prices as SumUp direct) so if you need one before Saturday, and you have a Toolstation branch nearby that may be a good option: https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=sumup

We use a sum up card reader and it's really good! I don't think we've actually taken a physical card payment on it yet but the option to offer customers secure card payments via payment links is fantastic. They cost hardly anything but the transaction fee is around 1.5% on payments if I remember right off the top of my head
