Went along to this last night and have to say I really enjoyed it. The speakers in general were very good, particularly Zef Eisenburg from Musclemax, whose story about how he went from setting up his business in his bedroom with £3k to selling it recently for £75m was very inspiring.

It was very well organised and quite well attended; the only negative things I have to say is that the area used for open networking was a bit small, so once the numbers built up closer to the time of the speakers it became very difficult to nagivate the room at times; plus every few minutes I found myself being approached by the sponsors, mainly barclays.

That said, those guys were very friendly and I had a good chat with some of them even after they found out I was already a customer of theirs and therefore wasn't someone they could 'sell' to.

Just a shame there isn't something like this held here regularly

Hi Mike i went as well and had a great time. Zef was very good and came across as a nice guy to deal with.

I also thought the microsoft stand was good as it was giving away free accounting software and web design (basic web design)

Your right about the room it was very small.

I didn't make it, I had too many orders to pack and shop had been very busy that day, but I id receive the pack to enter for their awards, presuming it is the same people as the startup awards?
If it is I was a bit surprised to see you have to actually pay for the privilege to enter? Never come across that before.

Yeah they're the same people. I've actually came across a lot of these awards setups where you have to pay for entry - even well established/reputable ones. I'm guessing it must just be the norm in some cases. Usually what I tend to find with some of them is that they have quite a few stages with fairly long 'shortlists' - so people who pay but don't win can still claim some sort of accolade such as 'nominee', 'shortlisted', 'finalist' etc.
