I'm a director and secretary of what is now a single director company. There used to be two directors. Now it's just me. The secretary role is a legacy of when it was mandatory to have one. Which of course is no longer the case.

I'm just wondering whether to remove the role of secretary via Companies House. No major reason other than just keeping things simple.

Can you think of any benefits or drawbacks to keeping/dropping the secretary role in this instance?

    Thanks.

I would check the company's memorandum and articles. There is nothing to stop you altering them though.

Table A mentions secretary in a few places but nothing that suggests the role is required. There's no mention of a requirement in the articles either. As you say, it could be altered even if it was a requirement.

To be honest I'm more wondering about any downsides to dropping the role. Having two 'officers' listed on Companies House website isn't particularly special when it's the same name for both...
