Slow Computer

My computer has suddenly gone slow on me. It takes ages to load up programmes than before. Any computer buffs out there who can tell me how to speed up my computers. I have run virus check but it comes out clean.

Hi, here are some few tips to boost your PC Performance

Tips 1.

Delete temporary files.
Go to, ‘Start’, search, ‘Find All Files and Folders’.
Type into the Named box: *.tmp
Click the ‘Find Now’, button.
Select All by pressing ctrl + A. The computer will find temporary files.
Delete the files. These may have to be deleted one after the other.

Tips 2.

Deactivate automatic startup programs.
Use the msconfig to deactivate automatic startup programs for Windows XP, though I am not sure of what Operating System you are running If you are running Windows 2000 download MSCONFIG.EXE FROM HERE: copy the MSCONFIG.EXE to C:/winnt/system32 folder : Click start- Run- type: msconfig.exe in the dialog box and hit enter:

Tips 3.

Remove unwanted programs.
Go to, ‘Start’, ‘Settings,’ ‘Control Panel’.
Click ‘Add/Remove Programs’. Remove/uninstall unwanted programs. If a message similar to “Remove Shared File” pops up, choose, ‘No To All’.

Tips 4.

Defrag your hard disk.

Tips 5.
Upgrade your Memory/Ram.

Be carefull with editing start up programes I used a well known tutorial on it and it works fine till you need to use the printer and other gadgets pluged into your pc. Leave print spools on if you have a printer.

Run adware
Antivirus
Defrag hard drive

Once my Comp ran really slow it was fine after a reinstall of windows.

I think we need a bit more info on your system - specs, operating system etc etc etc.
Also check the available space on your hard-drive, if you have used more than about 80% then performance will drop dramatically
