    Hi,
We've a .co.uk site which ranks very well in Google with a lot of top spots, but for some reason it isn't appearing in Yahoo searches for UK only. (Or rather only parts of it that are connected to other databases, like a forum etc are showing).

We're showing top in the Yahoo directory if someone types in 'single parent holidays', but not in a standard UK only search.

I'm sure the solution will be something blatantly obvious but it would help if someone could put us out of our misery :)
    Thanks!

If Yahoo weren't crawling our site, surely we wouldn't be showing on the default web search for Yahoo or in the Yahoo directory though?

Your server is based outside the UK, it probably does show results outwith the UK at somepoint but the first page will be 100% UK server based sites only. I have US servers and rank 1 on google , bing and yahoo but if I do uk only on bing or yahoo no show. (Yahoo uses the bing search engine anyway so the results will be near identical for both).

I wouldn't be concerned about it, yahoo get a very small piece of the search engine pie and the UK only will be even smaller, anyway, it's your server location.

I think this scenario will give some point:
My website in Google (malaysia) ranks only in page 5 but in Yahoo (malaysia) my site ranks number 1.

Which means Google and Yahoo has different metrics in ranking websites. Try to build backlinks from uk sites and optimize your site for uk people (provide them what they need and how they will be benefited through your product and services by using interesting content).

Thanks guys. Our best quality backlinks are predominantly UK based though there are some weak directory links elsewhere (remnants of time with an SEO company) and a few blog responses. We'll run through our link profile now to give it a tidy up.

Our server is a Webfusion VPS so I'm presuming that the location of this won't be an issue? How can we check this?

Rubbish, is has nothing to do with backlinks, if you rank No1 in yahoo you have the search term or part of it in your domain, that is guaranteed, they use the bing search engine and ALWAYS prefer EMD or partial EMD domains. Google likes EMD's but takes into account alot more factors.

The location of the server does matter if you are using UK only results.

We don't have an EMD but we appear near the top in yahoo for the search term single parent holidays (number 2 today) for a web search. We don't appear at all if you narrow this to UK only.

Are you using Bing webmaster tools?- because yahoo get results from it.
Also you can submit your website for yahoo, if you have not done it. Click here
@platypus It does not matter your server is outside uk- of course it helps to rank better, but there are other factors as well. Short tips bellow
    Geo targeting website

That's like saying ignore any search terms with low volume....
I prefer not to put my eggs in one basket, and although this isn't a major issue for us, it's still worth us investigating. I may not spend a fortune in doing so, but there could be a relatively easy fix.

Believe me there are some people using it. It is not so popular in UK, but...Sometimes, when you install soft (any) there is option to change home page by default, older people or not so experienced in computers even do not know what that means....

Our site is nearly 7 years old and showing on the yahoo directory and .com search engine so I don't think this is the issue.
