Installed it and it doesn't do anything I can't already do.

Site speed isn't something you need everyday.
    Analytics is managed by clicky
Search console works better on my Google dashboard
Which leave adsense - the real reason why they want you to install the plugin.

I'm sure some will find a use for it but it's not something I'll ever need.

And of course you give to give up a lot of privacy if you want to avail yourself of their services.

You can do all of that without the plugin.

It seems like unnecessary bloat. Bloat means less reliable as @UKSBD found out, it means slower (not enough to notice by adding one plugin, but add lots and it will be), it often means less secure (maybe not in this case as the functionality is not publicly accessible) and it might be tracking.

It is. When you activate Google tells you it's going to be watching everything you and your visitors do.

Google isn't doing this because it likes you. It's doing it to make more money. It has realised how many millions of wordpress sites there are and can see $$$$ signs.

@fisicx I mean on top of the tracking they do with a normal Google Analytics install integrating it into the admin means they might track a bit more.

Quite a lot of them are already using Google Analytics, judging by the number of plugins. The most popular plugins have millions of installs, the rest must add a fair bit, and then there are people who just add it to the theme.

Yes - that's what it says during installation - you can't opt out.

The GA plugins are not Google plugins, they are just things various developers have created over the years. I've done the same (except mine let you add any tracking code you want).

I realise that, I just mean a large number of such plugins and the number of downloads they have shows a lot of Wordpress sites uses Google Analytics.
