Seo Feedback Please!!

Hi Guys,

I have a good understanding of the concepts behind SEO and techniques but lack the technical skill to effectively implement this into our site. The site serves as an information hub, rather than for producing business.

I have done a brief keyword analysis of our site (www.conlon-construction.co.uk) and some of our main competitors and I am already aware that we will need to re-do the keywords.

I was hoping to implement a page with all our clients logos e.g Lancashire, Cheshire, Manchester City Councils etc and also Private companies - each one acting as a hyper link to that client's relevant web page. I also wanted to include logos of governing bodies and industry specific bodies into the homepage, again acting as a link to these webages.

I also want to look at placing some adverts around some sites to help increase our exposure.

Any recommendations, tips or help will be greatly appreciated.

Yep - remember to add alt tags to your images by the way!

Anyway you can make those page URLs a bit cleaner? Are the search engines managing to index all your sub pages OK via the menu system?

Erm to be honest I don't know - How could I check the status of the sub-pages ? what do you mean by clean the urls ? get rid of all the crap after the domain when selecting particular pages ?

Our site is hosted and controlled by Zedit - I have the ability to adjust content but not layout or design. Any changes to the back-end therefore are definately not done by me!

I hate the homepage, think it looks really amateurish - again any ideas ?

You can see how many of your pages are currently indexed by Google by using this query:

site:www.conlon-construction.com

As you can see, as it stands none of your pages are indexed by Google.

Has your site only very recently been launched?

No the site has been operational for quite some time - It has become one of my priorities, since joining as my expereince has largely been within e-commerce type companies. I never got involved with SEO, design or back-up - I simply either pushed affiliate schemes, sourced suppliers for products and general marketing really. I understand some of the concepts, but would be pretty clueless as how to implement them.

It is housed by another company and any changes i request will be carried out by their team - who can access the back-end (I am simply the front-end user)

Are u talking about each pages rank matt or sometrhing else ??

OK, you tricked me! Your post and sig has the .com address, whereas Google has your .co.uk address!

Try this query in Google:

site:www.conlon-construction.co.uk

You can now see that 3 of your pages are indexed by Google. This means that these three pages will be displayed in Google's results.

As your site clearly contains more than 3 pages I would aim for getting as many pages as you can indexed. As someone else has already pointed out, your "interesting" urls may be hampering you in doing this. It might be worth creating a flat HTML sitemap (or you could look at Google Sitemap) in order to allow your pages to be easily indexed.

erm.....apologies if i seem dense, but how did you depict 3 pages from simply following the link ? the rank is 4/10 overall....or is this irrelevent ?

or by "query" in google do you mean something else entirely ?

basically what do i need to go to my host with, in terms of a strategy to rectify its current status ?

I have already outlined the keywording, links and banners etc. - what next ?

Really appreciate all your help and (patience! lol!)

into the search box on Google and look at the results.

does it actually say that somewhere ??

Hi Jamie - Good news and bad news. First the good news. Your site has got a good page rank which means that Google sees it, indexes it and ranks it. You have 3 pages in the Google index out of a site which has lots of pages. My guess is that the pages that have been indexed are the ones linked from the LHS of the page - these menu items are almost certainly 'crawlable' - that is to say that a search engine can follow the link, find the page and index the content. My guess (although I haven't checked) is that all of the drop down menus are not crawlable hence those pages have not been found and indexed. My advice would be to either change the menus or create a site map which has crawlable links to every page in the site.

With this in mind, along with plans for re-keywording, links and all the rest of it - is there anything else i should be thinking of in terms of increasing our exposure and improving our rankings?

From a technical point-of-view are these attributes (like the site map for instance) easy enough to implement? Just thinking from our hosts point - they will probably want some form of dosh to implement the changes (which should've been done in the bloody first place!) What can i expect to pay bear in mind they wont pull the wool over my eyes!
