Other worthwhile promotion for website

Excluding SEO and Froogle which i'm looking into does anyone have any recommendations of ideas to get traffic levels up on a website?

i've tried traffic bundles on a previous website but they tend to be in the form annoying pop ups etc (or so ive heard from people who know about these companies) and aren't targeted even though a firm i was with claimed they were. So not going to use this approach again.

I've got some business cards, letter heads etc. done but they are only really relevant for repeat custom.

I guess there are lots of things you can do. It will depend on your target market.

Press releases,
Pay per click
Relevent Directory lisings
clasified advertising,
Start an affiliate program,
rss news feed,
rss product feeds,
create a newsletter, and get visitors on your site to sign up,
Have a tell a friend function. Where visitors can enter their friends email addresses and recommend your site to them.
link exchanges,
partnerships/joint ventures with similar sites that are not direct competitors. (IE, a thankyou page link exchange. On your thank you page you recommend something that your customers might be interested in aswel as your product,but after they have paid you, and not a direct competitor. They do the same on their thank you page....just an idea)

I am sure others could list loads more than this for you.
