Online payment processor

Hi all

Forgive me for not being so much knowledgable in this area.

I am trying to find out if it is possible to build numerous websites that sell products online i.e. domain1.co.uk domain2.co.uk and when users wish to buy/register they go to an e-commerce platform on say at handsongroup.co.uk

I am looking to save costs by having to expend on building a ecommerce section on each and every website we will have and we will be collecting payments for the group members.

Does this make sense and is it possible?

Hi

Yes it would be possible to set up what you require.

You would have to have a payment 'basket' on your handsongroup.co.uk website and then pass payment details from your other sites to that.

It quite depends on what you sell.

Really though nochex / paypal all do this, you arrange all the purchase details on your own site then let them handle the payment, they then pass the customer back when finished.

I'm not certain if there are any 3rd party things to do this for you, you may have to get your web developer to implement this solution for you.

Regards

Darren

Yes, it is entirely possible - and as you described, it's an excellent way to reduce start-up and ongoing maintainance costs if you are running several e-com sites all of which would have similar functionality.

There is also no reason why you couldn't customise the look and feel of the e-commerce platform in order to match that of the individual site, so it appears to be a seamless transaction for the user.

As others have said above, it's perfectly possible.

I'd use a slightly different approach though. I'd have the same engine/code powering it all, but the items/services listed as available to buy will be determined by the hostname people have entered or some other variable.

This will allow you to use the same engine and payment processor on different sites, but still let the sites have their own unique appearence.

Many of our clients, even from here wish to pay by Paypal but we directly refuse for numerous reasons i.e. security, additional terms/conditions etc. It does look amateurish to offer payment by Paypal, in my opinion

We are planning to build the online payment on the HOG website to serve the different sites and this will allow other Group members to use the facility where we would deduct a % transaction fee etc

The system would be branded by HOG and to say it is powered by HOG with all payments going to a dedicated bank account via an approved payment processor (not worldpay!) probably HSBC whom we bank with.

Glad it is feasible and made sense to the majority (except Jayne who needs it translating in yorkese!)

If your servers are Windows then ASP is the ideal solution. There are pros and cons of each technology, but the main limitation is likely to be the ability of the developers who build the system and what technology they are most comfortable with.

My personal preference would be for ASP.NET.

You can actually generate the client invoice number within a money request via Paypal and the payment comes through showing that reference number. It just is unwieldly with the numbers that are now going through daily. Not sure any of them are perfect though :) I do think there is a lot of snobbery with Paypal but it clearly works for Ebay.

That's because Ebay own it!... has been a while since I have used it so it may have developed. By accepting credit/debit cards through an approved payment processor we should be able to see all transactions in one place without having to go to Paypal as well.

I tend to think that a bona fide business would use Worldpay, SECpay, etc and not use Paypal for making payments. Problem is that Paypal has been branded as an Ebay payment processor as that is how they started.

A possibility for us to work together on our planned initiative as it is legal-related and will be looking for partners at some point.

I know several people have already stated this but, yes it is more than possible to run several e-commerce systems via one payment platform.

No matter what people say Paypal might work but, it doesn't have the functionality and it does have a credibility issue.

Suggest you look at Wordpay and Secpay. They are much of a muchness between the two and its a bit like choseing mobile tariffs and providers. Both work fine.

Thanks Jonathan, your link works for me, could be you typed in Lineone.com which does show a Tiscali page. The site is currently being worked on so from time to time the links are not working depending on which ones they are doing. My point on Ebay was that ownership worked for them so a lot of businesses use it clearly. Still prefer to pay via Secpay or World Pay as it is easier.

Happy to look at any joint venture, you will need to speak to either the CEO Sue McGaughran or our MD, Pm with the details and I shall set something up.
