As it says above, Bloody annoying and another money grabbing act by the owners i guess
Completely agree. I can't even read some of the posts.
How to look amateurish without trying, money, money, money
I don't seee any ads at all.
I even disabled uBlock Origin but still nothing.
Post a screen shot showing the ads.
I only get ads at the top and left hand side. annoying but ignoreable(?)
When I read the first thread I have a total redirect to some Amazon competition spam, have to restyle the forum address, since it cannot be closed down.
Great way to reduce the forum members, will stick around for a while mainly because of the updates on the Chinese Virus but I have better things to do.
Those ads, which started to appear yesterday, prompted me to activate my ad blocker for this site.
I don't see any intrusive ads.
I do see a lot of 3rd party tracking cookies caught by Privacy Badger.
On mobile, they are at the bottom of the screen.
the ads themselves aren’t overly intrusive but I’ve just had a battle with the fake amazon pop up again.
The owners really need to sort this issue as it must be putting people off visiting.
Small advert at the bottom of the screen on mobile, doesn't bother me much.
First one appeared today, blocking from the right the entire screen, making the post I was reading impossible to read and the search and notifications options impossible yo use. If it comes back I think I will give up on this place.
One thing happens and that causes you to give up?
Why not just install an ad blocker?
It's the principle.
What principle is that?
If an ad is blocking posts it sounds like a fault on the website...if there is a fault on a website that means you would leave?
It was raised on Saturday, although I had thought it was in the feedback forum. If it is a fault it is a big one and I would have expected it to have been fixed.
Its not always that simple. Bad adds are often due to rogue advertisers who slip them into the normal cycle of adds or implement new code in the ad serving system without telling the sites that use their system. The result is that the site admins may not be aware of the ads until they are informed by members and even then may not be able to see them.
This one was from Tesco. The annoying part was that it covered the text of what I was reading and there was no way of removing it.
Sorry, only just picked this up.
We haven't changed any settings re: ads on our side; all the ads are provided by third-parties (Google, primarily).
And I haven't seen any intrusive ads myself -- they're all confined to the defined buckets at the top and left-hand columns. I've tried replicating the issue, and asked my colleagues to do the same, and no joy so far.
If next time you see one of these ads covering text you can send me a screengrab, that would be useful in chasing it up with our technical people: [email protected]
Will do, thanks. The first one was appalling, covering about 20% of the entire right side of the screen and no way of removing it. Since then there have been a few sort of balloons in the right hand corner and they have delete x, so a bit less intrusive.
Cyndy -- yes, I've been seeing those for the first time today. As you say, not massively hard to deal with, but a bit more in your face than we've been used to.
