Natwest Merchant account and RBS Worldpay as the gateway!

A Natwest Merchant account accepts payments face to face, telephone and mail order but...
To accept online payments you require a separate account apparently?

Not only that, but Natwest uses RBS WorldPay!

Is this related to RBS group selling off 80% of its global merchant business to Advent International and Bain Capital?

I think they've got that the wrong way round.

With The RSB merchant account you get the Online payment to your site set up as standard, for Moto payments you need to pay an extra £100 set up charge to be able to do, Phone, Fax & post orders via their virtual terminal ;)

You can use your Streamline merchant account with any payment service provider for online payments. Worldpay is just one option (but Streamline likely pushed you in this direction).

There is plenty of choice for PSP - have a look at the threads on this forum for suggestions.

Currently, RBS owns Natwest Bank, Streamline and Worldpay. I consider it unfortunate that Worldpay was rebranded RBS Worldpay since it is for sale (or sale agreed) and will be with a new owner.

Regarding moving account to RBS - if you have an existing relationship with a business bank manager then stay put. RBS personal and business accounts are being split off and a sale has been agreed with Santander. (See http://www.rbs.com/customers/our-services/sale-of-branches.ashx)

Here is something the banks probably won't tell you: It is not necessary to have your business bank account with the same provider as your merchant service - actually, this might be convenient (for you and the banks) but almost certainly costs you more.

An independent PSP can offer payment solutions that are separated from your business bank account with better emphasis on service, quality and competetive rates - many banks rely on customers never questioning this. Shopping around (outside the high street banks arena) can make life simpler and pay dividends, particuarly if you are a small business.
