National Insurance No. for non-residents

Hi Everyone,

I have a small concern & I hope I get a solution here.

Can I get a national insurance No. considering I am not a UK resident though I have been running a small telemarketing Co. in the UK for over 4 years now?

The reason I want this is because of a business opportunity which i dont want to miss but the Co.'s requirement is that I must have a national insurance no.

I've got in touch with the HMRC & the jobcenter but couldnt get much info except that they want me to send a letter explaing to them my circumstances.

So my question once again is, if my clientelle is based in the UK, my target market is the UK & I file my returns in the UK, am i entitled to get a NINo.

I am really looking forward to some advice.

I am afraid I am slightly confused as to why you are filing UK tax returns?

In what way is your business based in the UK other than your clients being here?

OK, I have my bank accounts there, DPA No. & CCL No. apart from my Co. The reason I had to go for these things is because I started off as a finance broker (rather an introducer) & Co. dealing with me at that time wanted me to have these things as a requirement. And then i've had letters from that Co.'s house wanting me to file returns so i did what was required for me to do.

OK, I beg your pardon, I did not realise you operated as a UK limited company.

From the information you have provided, I cannot see anyway you can get a UK NI number.

I am still confused as to why you feel you need one though? If you are working through a Ltd. Company who requires you to have an NI number?
