Hi all,

Ive got a campaign running, i am having it re-done next monday, i am just wondering if more keywords the better or not? At the moment there are hundreds but i seem to get all sorts of responses. some about services i dont do.

The campaign is for House clearances, so if i used just a few common ones like ' house clearance - house clearances - house clearance prices'

would this be sufficent or not?

I understand my seo man will or should tell me but i cant wait till then, i just want to know if it will help or not.

many thanks inadvance.

There is no magic answer here, but the normal advice is to test, monitor, tweak, retest, monitor, tweak, test... and so on until you find what works best for you.

Check your stats to see which words/phrases you are being found under (and that generate sales/leads), then start working in additional words/phrases and monitoring those. Ditch ones that don't work.

Hi Ben,

I would suggest putting your keywords on a exact match. This way you arent appearing under services you dont do and you wont get time wasting calls.
Id say the more keywords the better, especially all the nitty gritty ones, they are cheap and tend to be good convertors. Do you have conversion tracking on the campaign? Just monitor over the next few days and turn off ones that dont convert. You just have to fine tune the campaign until you just have a set of keywords that all work.
If you havent got the time to perfect the campaign I would suggest a Google Qualified Agency to look after your campaign. One that doesnt charge a silly 15% fee of course :)
Hope this helps :)

If you're only going to be using broad generic terms such as 'house clearence' then you're more than like going to get queries for services that you don't do. If you're going to go for this approach, then don't forget to stock up your negative keywords for things you don't offer (eg; -fridges)

If you've got Broad match, then google will show your ads for all sorts of bizarre unrelated search requests. Almost any search term that has the word "house" in it.

Also watch out for using any terms with "estate" in, partic with broad match, because they'll stick your ad up for "estate agent" searches etc.

Also, make full use of the negative keywords to screen out all those that you know are a waste of time.

(Just seen that LandingNet has just written the same!!)

From an organic point of view it depends how much time is spent on each keyphrase. If only a finite amount of time is available then that time is better concentrated amongst fewer keywords. This is why it is so important so choose the correct keyphrase through Keyword and Competitor Analysis.

With regards to PPC. Start with more to gather results then focus in when you have your metrics. Again Keyword Analysis is fundamental.
