Mediahawk’s Google integration helps marketers to track offline enquiries from online marketing activity

Mediahawk, a call tracking specialist, has created a link up with Google analytics to track telephone calls made in response to digital marketing campaigns such as pay per click advertising, search marketing, social networking and email marketing. Mediahawk’s Google integration enables marketers to clearly see both their online and offline traffic and conversions, all through Google analytics. There is currently a large gap in the measurement of how successful online marketing is for generating telephone enquiries compared to online conversions. With this knowledge at their fingertips marketers will be able to improve their understanding of which forms of online marketing are working to generate telephone calls into their business. As a result they can increase enquiry levels using tactical marketing by re-allocating spend to more successful areas.

“The internet is a highly competitive area for many brands and to be able to have an understanding of which keywords prospects have searched on to find them is essential. Up until now, marketers have only been able to find out this information through their Google analytics tracking. Mediahawk has integrated their call tracking system to show marketeers how many telephone calls have come from particular keyword searches, website promotions and pay per click advertising.”
    Michael Morrell, Managing Director, Mediahawk

Call tracking with Google integration works by allocating telephone numbers using simple coding to track a telephone number from the moment a prospective customer clicks on an online advert. Once the prospect is on the website the number they use to call the dealer will be tracked right from where they originally clicked through. This way all online advertising can be monitored and calls that come from this activity is tracked and displayed in the same way that website traffic currently is.

Mediahawk who work with brands such as Kia, Aston Martin and Keith Prowse is confident that the new concept will be welcomed amongst brands that wish to deepen their understanding of offline responses to online marketing techniques. In addition to call tracking, Mediahawk also provide call recording where a marketer can to listen to any inbound sales enquiry. The benefit to this is that all sales calls can be monitored and the content used to improve sales conversion rates.

I really like the idea of being able to track and to see what online marketing is working for the business. I just wanted to know if you have any case studies where they have used your system and have worked out what works best and what doesn't?

I have just sent you a PM regarding your press release too. It sounds like an innovative concept.

Give switchboardfree a look. They give 2 non geographic numbers free and post data directly into google analytics. This allows you to track your call traffic down to the geographic location. I've used them for a while now and was surprised how professional they are given the fact the system is free. They constantly upgrade the system with extra functionality and i hve had no problems with them. I'd advise giginv them a look. I looked at fresh egg, and a few others but went with these guys in the end
    Regards

They probably don't offer the ability to work out cost per lead, number of rings, time of call or roi though as you would need additional reporting for this. You can also get further functionality such as call recording and dynamic numbers that can tell you which keywords are generating calls. Oh and check that you own the numbers so if you move from them you can take your number with you.

    Hi
Time of call along with duration are all available within the reporting functions within the switchboardfree product. They are also able to differentiate between paid for and organic clickthrough. They provide a script to add to your webpage which will display a dynamic number depending on which referrer your site visit comes from. The software doesn't actually calculate the ROI but gives robust and detailed reports not only just within the switchboardfree system but in google analytics alongside your regular web traffic. As for whether you own the number or not i cannot say. True ownership of a telephone number is allocated to registered telecoms companies rather than an individual i believe.

Call tracking is all about measuring the ROI you get from marketing. If you can discover how many of your online telephone enquiries generated actual sales leads for your business you will be able to make more reliable marketing decisions. This is where the added functionality comes in with features such as call recording, dynamic numbers, call whisper and missed call alerts.

You may have received 30 telephone calls from your last yellow pages advert but how many of these were actual leads? You can cancel your advert or book a larger one based on this information.

I couldn't agree more. What you have said there hits the nail on the head. Measuring ROI is key to ensuring you are targeting the correct area with your marketing spend. As a new busines startup i have found that controlling my outgoings is key to my profitability. Over spending on marketing is a big black hole when you can't see where your spend is working and when it isn't. The call reports from switchboardfree along with the google analytics data posted through to my account has been invaluable to me. I have been able to target the areas that are working and cut out the ones that aren't. The use of their script which dynamically changes the number displayed according to the referrer, along with having unique numbers in each advertising medium like yellow pages and national publications, has allowed me to target my advertising budget more effectively. They're services have proven invaluable to me

Its great to get that kind of service for free but i wonder how much it would be if you wanted more than two numbers? I guess as you got it free you are only using two.

you're correct in that im only using 2 numbers at the moment. just checked on the website in my account and they have several options for more numbers. if you want 1 more it works out at 4.97 per month but if i get 20 numbers it works out at 69.97 a month. so just under 3.50 per month per number. From what i can remember there are a lot of service providers in this area that charge an initil fee and a monthly charge even for 1 number. i would hate to think what they would charge for 20!!!! No doubt a lot more than switchboardfree are charging. I would guess if i wanted a lot of numbers and had sufficient call traffic that they would probably do a discount of some sort. Personally i probably won't use more than another 10 as my business grows so that's just under 40 a month. I can live with that :)
