Just wondering who you use for Magento hosting and why?

We host a fair few magento stores incl. that of some UKBF members. Plenty of hosts around just make sure that if your wanting magento that they have all the necessary PHP extensions installed as many do not.

I know they host a few Magento Sites, I host with them but use Wordpress.

Magento can use alot of resource and to run smoothly I would certainly reccomend a good hosting provider, we have had to help resolve alot of websites for clients on Magento who suffered from slow Magento websites that crash and timeout in the admin, especially if they have alot of products.

We host all our Magento websites on one of our Dedicated Servers, the best we have found is Uk Fast however they are not a cheap hosting provider but do have agreat support teams and a good network.

Be very careful with cheap hosting companies who sell very cheap hosting if your wanting to build a Magento site.

I know that Gaming deluxe offer fast web hosting for magento sites and they are very reasonable.

Icon's greeting card website is a great example. Its a big site and is very quick. Magento can be slow so needs to be on a beefy server, dedicated preferably. This site has been up and running for some time and is quick!

I've been recently advised that my Magento site could benefit from being hosted on a dedicated server. It's on a shared server at the moment with one other site.

I'd appreciate some guidance on when you should upgrade, e.g. in terms of bandwidth requirements etc. (excuse possible incorrect terminology, I'm not a technical person). It's a big cost increase and there is a cost to migrate it over, so would be good to have other views.

Magento is a resource hungry solution and if you are generating plenty of traffic then you could certainly benefit from moving to a dedicated or managed server - as long as your business warrants it. We can provide managed server hosting for you if you would like a quote.

That's really a "how long is a piece of string" question unfortunately

It really depends on how well the site is performing that you should take the decision to move.

It might interest you to know that we can do a fully managed VPS server with cPanel to support Magento from £50 + vat per month

It's not struggling at the moment, so don't need to move it quite yet. Later this year probably, I was told.

It's a VPS or Virtual Private Server. Basically it's your own isolated unit on a host machine with other VPS servers, a slice of a bigger pie if you like. It does mean you have your own set of dedicated resources to work with though and you are not affected by other VPS users.
