Yep. Not just cross party support, but active promotion of lockdown by many MPs and Labour Party.

It will be announced before Wednesday, if not tonight.

Takes us nicely up to the first day of the new tax year

My daughters nursery has sent her home, plus all workers with kids at home. Not busy enough, will close on Friday no matter what, probably tonight in reality. A lockdown is made easier since many national chains are shutting down themselves.

Will it be a full lockdown?

    I doubt it.

This government have a knack of nudging it's way to the inevitable.

Not sure who they're trying to protect.

    . . . . .and flights continue to come in from all infected countries . . . . . . . . .madness!

Most of the inbound flights are freight. Very few passengers.

Lockdown doesn’t stop infection, it just delays things. People need to read up on how a Coronavirus works.

Can't see the whole of the UK being in lock down - London maybe.

Perhaps due to the fact that most countries have stopped allowing their public to fly. 3 weeks ago, flights were full of passengers arriving . . . . . .even from northern Italy.

It's intended to isolate and stop the spread. Without it, the cases will continue to rise exponentially with an impossible task for the NHS staff to cope with.

I agree. But as soon as the restrictions are lifted people will become infected. On report estimates 17% are asymptomatic carriers. Lockdown delays, it doesn’t prevent.

Lockdown is not intended to prevent.

Its intention is to stop the spread of the current infections.

Most countries in the Far East have followed this strategy with the effect that it has dramatically slowed the rate of infection.

Of course this will not stop the spread completely, it's a highly infectious virus.

    An unknown virus.

I think we will be in a cycle until they get a vaccine

    ie.
tight restrictions for a few months, slacken them off for few months, tighten again, slacken again then hopefully in about 2 years they will have enough vaccine created

My money is on a 'type of lockdown'.

Partial and still advising/relying on the public to comply.

    Lockdown is on.

Police will have powers to fine and disperse. All non essential shops and meeting places forced to close. You’re only allowed to leave home for food shopping (infrequent), one form of exercise per day.
