    Hi,

Was just wondering if anyone can help?!

I am looking for a laptop with no operating system already installed. I have my own system on disc, ready to install to a new laptop. I was hoping to get a laptop without XP etc already on it so that I can save a bit of money!

If anyone knows where to get a bare-bones laptop, it would be great!

    Thanks all!:)

I have rarely seen a laptop for sale without an OS and purely because you need to see the laptop working correctly, not later when you install the OS. I honestly do not think you will save much. The OS you have on CD is likely to be under a 'single-user' licence

Just from my experience of buying laptops. Selling a MAC laptop at the moment

I very much doubt you will find one. Is the OS you have on disk/licence brand new or used on a current machine?

The OS I have on disk is new. Sounds like I will have to get one with an OS already installed.

Thanks very much for your help guys :)

    Liz,

Take a look at www.novatech.co.uk. When you go to place your order you can select not to have an OS installed. You can save £50-£60 that way with them.

Haven't ordered a machine from them but other dealings with them give me no cause for concern.

I recommend you take on with an Os already installed. It is sometimes difficult to find the proper drivers for all the pieces in your new laptop, if you wish to install an os personaly. It depends. If know how to do it, choose Novatech.

You should still get a driver disk without the os.

Normally manufacturers make drivers available for download on their sites, very easy to find, usually.

You're right. Still it does require some time and skills to find them and install them.

XP will install from the CD if boot sequence is set up ok, you don't need a floppy now.

Consider a whitebook, you can have it configured how you like with no OS. PM me if you want more info.

    regards,
    Mick

I bought a lappy from novatech with no OS about a month ago. One of their clearance models. Seems a good supplier and people I know rate them highly.
