Just getting started and need Feedback

We are just getting started with our ecommerce site selling adsl, skype related and other IT and consumer electronics products. I would appreciate some contructive feedback about our site.

I know there is a lot of room for improvement so I thought you guys may be able to point me in the right direction.

Honestly, I would have clicked off that site instantly if I was a potential customer. The adverts, screen being so wide because of poor coding, and general look of the website is very off putting. The menu also has parts where the entire name cannot be read.

The design isn't great but I've seen much worse. The 6.99 delivery charge would have sent me running though!

I didn't like the fact that i have to scroll across to see the whole page. I dont mind scrolling down but acroos as well is too much.

Thanks for the feedback. I know it needs improving and this is a useful excercise. To be honest people around you don't give the proper criticism. MacMyday how would you improve it the general look? Which parts of the menu can you not see properly?

I'd have the entire site redisgned professionally if I were you.

You seem to have some empy areas as well, like 'Projectors'.

It's the makings of a good site, but you just need to spend some money on the design side of things.

Cheers for you views Duane. Unfortunatley I don't have much in the budget for professional design. I am using Ekmpowershop to host my site though so I may revert to using one of their templates and develop this one offline. I just think the templates look to much like every website that you come across.

Ahh well I'll just keep on working at it hopefully it will come right.

Hi,

Well done on getting this far, there's still alot to do but you will get there!

The top 'logo' looks like it has just been put on without a thought. I would get a logo designed professionally. When you advertise your site in the paper, leaflets or on the internet a good logo will make you look professional and serious.

I didn't like the ads either. I don't really understand why serious ecommerce sites have ads. Instead why not use this space for product features, special offers etc.

Then I had to scroll slightly across to see the site - no a big issue but just irratating!

I think the categories are too close together - was it a sentence I was reading? Maybe seperate the text a little.

Check out the printer information page the font is different size to the rest of the product info pages and the images is behind the text.

I find the £6.99 delivery charge reasonable, but a charge like this must be for next day courier and not RM Recorded or whatever where you 'allow up to 5 working days' etc. Why not offer a longer delivery period for a lesser cost also?

You do need to improve the product range. I assume you are working on this already. Another thing I can't understand is websites that offer lots of different products many categories and yet only fill them with a few products, maybe one from each brand.

Either really focus and master one category or area or just use a few brands and stock most of the product range from them relevant to that area. Your online shop has a lot of empty shelves!!

As you thought I am currently working on filling out the categories at the moment. It is prooving a painstaking process as I am trying to get the best products for competative prices.

On the logo front I am also currently working on it. I am currently doing it myself but it does not look professional like you suggested. Do you know how much it would cost me to have a logo designed professionally? I know thats a 'how long is a piece of string question but if you know ball park or some possible designers it would be a real help.

I wouldn't dismiss anything because it might be too expensive until you have actually got a price to consider!
