I'm going to set up an online business and give away 40 % commission to the affiliates.

Do u think 40% commission is a good deal?

Depends. Some companies pay out more than 100% but because its based on customer acquisition rather than order value. What are your marketplace competitors offering?

If you are a web hosting company more than 100% is not a bad deal. If you have an info product then even upto 75% is not a bad deal. However if you ship physical goods, then 40% might be too much unless you are talking about 40% of the revenue generated

Most companies would give 15% - 25%

A really, really pointless and unanswerable question. It depends entirely on the value of the product you're selling. 40% could be great, or it could be absolutely awful.
