Impossible to answer without knowing the nature of your business in relation to broadband usage, number of users, what services are used etc.

Business clients that I support have connections ranging from basic ADSL, through SDSL to fibre and leased lines.

The other critical factor is a Risk Assessment of the impact on the business if the connection goes down. Most broadband connections, though generally reliable, have no SLA and at the extreme you could be offline for a week.

Hello,

Sure loads of people would offer you help on this one! - We are here if you need some help or a second opinion.

Depending on your exchange we can offer you a truly unlimited package (With no fair use policy) for aorund £20 per month or capped packages from £9 per month.

Things to ask any supplier are the ratios (How many people can use your line at any one time) our business packages have a 1:5 ratio our home packages 1:50.

Also look at SLA's (Service Level Agreements)

All our packages come on a 30 day contract so if you are not happy you dnt have to stay.

More info here http://www.amelixtelecom.co.uk/Broadband.html

Would love to help you wherever we can.

Depends to some extent what you can get at your local exchange. Some places seems to have loads of options, others, like here, only really have BT re-selling bandwidth on their own exchange equipment.

If you look at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search you can see what services are available in the local exchange just by entering your post code. Those suppliers who have red crosses in the LLU list will be using BT equipment to provide their service. I often wonder, but have no proof either way, if there is anything to be gained by not having a direct relationship with BT in case things go pear-shaped.

Hi Shugied,

We do sell products from BT Openreach (We make no bones about it). This is totally different to BT Retail. If you use a provider with thier own equipment they will never have the infrastructure BT Openreach do and we actually think the BT Openreach netowrk is brilliant.

They are 2 seperate businesses, BT Retail go through and use same systems as we do, however the service levels are no where near as many resellers.

For example we can react to faults much faster than BT Retail it may seem crazy but it is true, our client base is much smaller and therefore we can act much quicker, as we buy in bulk from openreach we have a much better service and SLA than a small business user.

Anyone who deals with BT Retail regularly will know you can get passed from call centre to call centre with no personal service, with us we care about every customer and can honestly say that we have only lost 4 customers in the entire time of trading (2 went bust, 1 was taken over by a larger company who moved them to VOIP and the other well just left!)

When you deal with BT Retail they usually tie you into long contracts and play off thier name, with us we give you a 30 day rolling contract as we believe in our service.

Dealing with resellers can be cheaper and better and you should know establishing a relationship with a reseller can give you better, cheaper and more personal service with EXACTLY the same product as BT Retail offer.

Happy to explain better if you fancy a chat.

A lot of other questions are answered [URLNO="http://www.amelixtelecom.co.uk/about.html"]here[/URLNO]

That all makes sense, but no matter how keen you are to provide a service, aren't you ultimately relying on the same engineers to fix the problem as BT Retail? Clearly it would not be hard to provide a better service than BT Retail's Indian call centres working to scripts, but does your SLA with them give you the clout to force them to fix something?

The problem I get is that the local exchange is a bit primitive, so BT is about all we get, I'll be happier when other companies get their kit into the exchange, the BT pipe to the real world is a bit chokka.

Yes the older exchanges rely on the copper solid drawn cables and are now getting past their shelf life. BT are slowly rolling out their Fibre Optic service but its gonna take some years to fully hit, apparently Ive got it in my post code but when you ask them its not available.

Like Amelixuk, we too have the same system and terms in place for our services and a UK based call centre where all calls are answered by UK staff.

Dealing with resellers can be cheaper and better and you should know establishing a relationship with a reseller can give you better, cheaper and more personal service with EXACTLY the same product as BT Retail offer.

Sorry to steal your quote Ami, I ditto that with other products we provide which will go towards saving you more money in the long term. Both of us and also CJD are worth looking at.

KM-Tiger is right, what are you going to do with the connection. If it is general business support without and not business critical functions such as hosting, VOIP, file uploads etc. then most packages will do. If you do plan to use business critical funtions such as VOIP however then you need a business grade line (contention rate and upload speed get more important).
Hope that helps!
