Ideas for finding someone to join the business

I haven't posted on this forum before but my business partner Kate was a regular poster until recently. For anyone that doesn't remember her we run a small business based in Manchester providing messy play sessions for preschool Children and also have a retail arm to the business.

For some time I have been thinking about the business set-up and have decided that we are missing a skills set - namely sales. I want to find someone with a strong sales background who would join us and drive forward the retail arm of the business.

I have spent the last few months claiming that once the new website is up I'll be able to do this that and the other and obviously the only reason I'm not doing is because of the delay on the website but.....I make a lousy salesman, I'm way out of my comfort zone and it's about time I admitted defeat and found someone who enjoys sales and marketing! Problem is I have no idea how to go about finding someone.

It would have to be someone who wants the challenge of their own business and who is prepared to work for business share rather than payment in the short term. I think it would also need to be someone in commutable distance to Manchester.

Any ideas on how I might find this person because I doubt they are going to just knock on my door - would be nice!!

Might be worth contacting your local university/colleges and offering a work placement to a marketing student. A win-win situation for you both in that you get someone eager to prove themselves for little/no money and they get the required work experience to complete their degree.

Just a thought.

Maybe theres someone already out on the road selling a related product that could add your offerings to their portfolio?
