HSBC International Payments

I made my first international payment last week, using the new HSBCNet online banking. It really was as simple as filling in the IBAN, BIC, & the amount on a webpage, and pressing the Submit button. It was to a supplier in Sweden who wanted payment in Swedish currency.

Compared to the last time we paid that supplier, which involved 2 directors having to attend a branch simultaneously to sign a form, this was a doddle.

Thats funny. I passed a sarcastic comment to an Advisor at HSBC when I was making a manual International Money Transfer by saying when is the bank going to enable us to do this over the internet and her response was "it wont be long"

That was two weeks ago! Wow, they do listen!

Can this service be used via the normal Business Internet Banking or is it a different website? I have yet to check our BIB

I can unequivocally recommend American Express for making foreign payments - you don't need to change your bank, it takes 2 working days, they don't debit your bank account until then, and their FX website is available 24/7. They charge £10 per transaction.

Call Amanda at Amex on 020 7633 6152 and tell her I sent you ....

No, it's available on HSBCNet which is not the same as HSBC's UK Internet Banking. I have logins to both, but use HSBCNet much more.

It seems that HSBCNet is offered to previous users of Hexagon, but I guess anyone could apply to use it. But a word of caution if you have an existing BACS facility, they won't allow you to transfer it, treating it as a new application and now requiring a personal guarantee.
