How to find companies to sell online leads to?

Hi all,

I'm a freelance web developer, but am interested in starting a lead generation site for e.g. life insurance or car finance.

What I would like to know is what information should I capture from the potential lead? Just the usual name, email, phone number or more? This leads on to my next question;

Once I have generated a life insurance lead on my website, I need to sell it to a life insurance company. Not knowing any life ins. companies myself - where do I start here?

If I was to create a car finance lead generation website, how would I find companies to send the leads to?

Good point. But then if I do get one I won't know what to do with it. I'm thinking of trying car finance and the client will probably want a response reasonably sharpish.

But yeah, why not see if I can get a lead first.

Would it not make sense to go to the websites of the companies you want to sell the leads to and their competitors and see what information they are asking for on their forms?

I would expect you'll get a much better chance of selling the leads if they are fully qualified.

I know a friend that does this for life insurance, something to do with Saga I believe. He sells leads for £35 each.

They will find you! I would make enquiries from other lead generation companies who supply to find out how it works for yourself! To be able to get as much money as you can you will need to understand how this industry works. For example there are first use leads, second use leads etc. Timed leads etc... We buy 'hot' 1st usage at £35.00 per lead and call all new leads within 5 minutes. We buy 100's. All leads are then released as second/third leads etc which I assume are cheaper. As I say probably worth getting more info as 'depends' on how many you can sell a day and other criteria. You will always be able to sell good new leads p/l

I would be interested in buying security service leads in and around Norwich. Keyholding, Alarm Response, Mobile patrols, CCTV, canine patrols, gatehouse that sort of thing.

Each affiliate will tell you the lead data they need and also the types they are targeting so I would start looking there. It will differ from company to company as to what qualifiies a lead.
