I'm sitting here having finished all our telemarketing work for this week and reviewing reports, sending bulk emails, planning next week, etc and wondered how everyone else's week has been for them.

I am trying to spend a bit of time on a Friday afternoon as a new years resolution to review progress in line with my business plan so that is what I am supposed to be doing now :)

So how was your week ladies and gents?

Interesting you say about call backs to messages Jonathan as I know do many people who don't leave messages when they call :)

I see it like a spiders web of contacts. A mix of cold calling, emailing and messages. For example, I called a company for a client in December, recep said they might be looking for a site in the new year. I left a message and sent her an email. Fast forward to last week when I called back, she'd forgotten all about us, so I re emailed her, left a message, heard nothing so re forwarded the email, then got a call back from the MD wanting to set up a meeting.

In other words, always follow up, always send emails and always leave messages. It might only make 1% of difference but sometimes that's all you need.

I have done 2.5 times my monthly target for January and I have two days of selling remaining.

It's been my most successful month in the 22 months since I became self employed and this month I have exceeded my total sales for my first 12 months of trading by 17k and with two months of the financial year remaining.

A very good month!

In contrast to everyone else is been tough for us this month. We've hit our monthly target, but that was from business that had already been quoted for or discussed last year

In all honesty im finding it tough to get people to be interested in switching, they seem to have given up on finding a better deal for print, and everyone wants to stay local.

Further to that our free design service used to be a good way of getting in the door, but know it seems as though people think there's a catch, and its not genuine.

I've been very clear that it is 100% to try, no risk no catch but very little response

Oh well, keep throwing **** at the wall, some of it will stick!

Hi Multi-store,

What is it that you do? Your web links in your signature don't seem to match up with what you say you do in your post above?

Hi,

The links on my sig are my own sites that are kind of just a hobby. I sell a few bits through them which cover the running costs of the sites.

As a job I work in sales, telelsales, field sales, appointments & even the odd bit of van driving!

My employer offers business photography, graphic design & lithographic print :)

Can you give me more detail as to what you were referring to in your previous post then?

I work with different firms and whilst I may not be able to drum up business for you immediately somebody might be interested in some form of design freebie, which may lead into something else.

Interesting, a 10+ days old thread still gets replies... Guess people just like to share their situation. :p

But I do find many useful tips, such as here "always follow up". It's definitely true! Your customers are facing thousands of suppliers in today's market, so if you want to be the one they pick up, be there the first or never stop following up~

Yeh i can give you an idea of how it works,

95% of the work we do is for catalogues & brochures, be it hard copies (which we also print in house) or just online versions.

As there are so many design agencies out there we find that it tough to differentiate one from another, and people often find they pay out for design work that they dont like and therefore have wasted there budget.

If for example a customer needs a 60 page brochure, we will offer to design the front cover & two inside pages so that they can "try before they buy"

Then if the customer likes the work we can quote for the full job and proceed.

Although our target market is for brochure & catalogues we also apply the same offer to things like flyers & leaflets, although for that we would only do a single side.

Glad you placed this thread here as my month has not been so good. You get out what you put in and I have not had much motivation to go through the numbers.

Better month for Feb. I have posted a thread today about my lack of motivation for selling and had some positive feedback and encouragement.

Now I am determined to make Feb a better month and hit target.

That's the great thing about being a sales rep' though. Even though the start of a new month or week or day is simply an arbitrary timescale you can use them to re-motivate yourself.

Even if I have had an absolutely atrocious month with it ending on say a Wednesday and it's beaten me down and demotivated me, the following day, which is the 1st of the month, is completely diffferent because it's a clean slate; it's another month to sell and completely changes my mood for the better (even though there is no actual difference between the 1st of the month and the 31st of the previous month :)
