We have been approached by a technical company who wish to white-label our services on some work here in the UK. The company appear legit and have asked us to do some work for a major international brand (their client). However, having been "burned" before I would like to do some due diligence. They have advised me that their payment terms are normally 6 - 8 weeks, which I feel pretty uncomfortable about. We are service providers so will be spending a lot of time doing the work for them.

Is there a good place we can do an online check on a company which is based in France? I used to use Experian for UK based businesses. Is there an international equivalent? Any advice would be gratefully received.

I recall that credit terms in France are typically 30 days longer than UK. Thats why you have big big problems if a French debtor goes pop.
You might think about getting Credit Insurance.
