Hello,

My Names Natalie.. I own a TINY business which in my first year made a loss... I have to admit first of all I am a total Novice to filing returns!!

I employ my Mum who doesn't earn enough to pay NIC or Tax... I was totally oblivious to the fact I would have to fill a P35 or P14 or ANYTHING?

I CANNOT afford to pay the £400 and wanted to appeal..But have no idea on what grounds? I can't ring them and say I'm just stupid?

Please if anyone can help I'd be really gratefull... Otherwise I'll be googling all night!!

Thanks in advance...

Natalie xxx

Wish I could... My sister is only 10 (years old) and my mum has to "announce" her earnings (which she did recently) Even though i only pay her about £90 per week (cheap family labour lol)

My dads self employed so she gets some kinda benefit for my sister I think?

is there anything else i can say or do? I don't think they'll let me off if I actually admit I'm just stupid??

hello, i have just had a penalty for a late p35 going back to year 05/06 , i have been told by hmrc it was submitted in June 06 when in fact it was done 10days before the due day 8/05. I have appealed with all the conformation emails i had at the time (still waiting for there reply). Now my account has told me which mite help you is, hmrc can not fine more in a penalty than what is due in the return, so in your case if you have nil nic and paye to pay hmrc they can not fine you. Fill out the p35 with nil to pay asap and send them a brief letter appealing the penalty.
