Zavvis was a management buy out.

I don't know what the name for a management, sub-management buy out is - 'rip-off' perhaps?

    He's on the money there.

There is a lot of talk on the forums that DSG will be lucky to survive more than another week or two, the staff seem quite worried.

I think it is only going to get worse before it gets better.
I do think the smaller shops will do better though, those that have a niche that is.Fingers crossed.

Agree, it was sad on Christmas Eve to see the local Woolworths selling off canteen tables, staff lockers, training flip chart easels, fixtures etc. Must have been soul destroying for the staff still there.

I hope not. Had an offer of extra 10% off if ordering between 3 and 6 on Xmas Day and ordered a Wii and Wii Fit which is due to be delivered next Wednesday. Paid by Credit Card just in case.

More stupid rumour. They made their first ever loss in one trading period in 25 years and now their doomed, I don't think so. There's certainly a need to shut down a number of unprofitable stores and divisions, and I believe they have the right man at the top to cut out the dead wood. Too many duplicate stores in the same town owned by DSG selling the same stuff. In my own town there's a Currys and PC World world superstore on the retail park, what point is there in a town centre Currys.digital (ex Dixons) selling a smaller range of the same stuff? From memory they've earmarked around 70 to close down sooner or later which makes perfect sense to me. It's something Woolworths should have done a long while ago.

No, where on earth did you get that silly rumour from?

its true that woolies didn't need to have 5 stores in liverpool..or whatever the figure was i can't remember. 2 would of been the maximum i would of thought!

they have one in the centre of whitby which as far as i know is quite profitable..its the only one for 50 odd square miles and is situated right on the harbour front where it catches literally hundreds of thousands of tourists during the summer.

but why you need duplicate stores of more than 2 in a city is beyond me...doesnt make business sense

The overlap I was refering to was Currys.digital (ex Dixons) and Currys. Even several years ago when there was a branding difference between Dixons and Currys a lot of the Dixons Shops didn't make sense, they make even less sense now where there's both in the same town. What's the point of duplcating a smaller range of the same product in a smaller shop in the same town?
