Quick Q - are there any grants available towards training costs, for taking someone who has been made redundant?

I've been talking to someone who has been made redundant from a factory job, and wants to use the opportunity to learn a completely new skill & better himself.

Just wondering if there are any grants i could apply for to add to what i have put aside to train someone?

Many thanks, Mark

it all depends what part of the country you are in. i was made redundant from a barnsley factory and tried to get fundining from my local jobcentre 40 miles away (i lived 40 miles away from the factory) i was told that i could not recieve any funding towards training because i did not come under the redundancy catchment area. good luck with the funding however with the new government pulling the plug on nearly all funding i think that the best place to approach is the local collage and ask about an apprentiship programme. there is no age limits but if the person is over 25 they would have to pay a registation and test fee of around two hundred pounds. good luck
