Getting a return on investment from telemarketing.

I have been on this forum for some time and i keep seeing the same things being written about telemarketing. Often people have tried it either themselves or outsourced to a 3rd party and the results have been poor or uninspiring.

Now, I know that telemarketing works, of that there is no debate, it always has and always will. However the question that we need to ask ourselves before we start is "can I get a ROI (return on investment) from this campaign." It is not always possible to make your money back as telemarketing has a relatively high cost per meeting in comparison to some other forms of marketing.

So I would love to hear about people where telemarketing has been really successful and where you have made some great profits and where it is a core part of your marketing mix. It would be great to give a different view point to people reading this forum.

Hi Lead Machine.

I am shocked how silent this thread is........ I constantly hearing those wanting telemarketing on this forum and just as many tring to put them off.

So where are those companies that have been successful......... or perhaps it's only by using a telemarketing company like us at TangerineDream or yourself Lead Machine that means companies are successful?

Interesting post.

We have always found a mixture of telemarketing and other activites works best for us. Think of hitting your target at least 3 times with different forms of marketing eg direct mail etc and then follow up with telesales. If they are interested you are likely to get a meeting or sale by then.

i work as a salesman and use the telephone all the time to gets leads etc, i make around 50 new sales calls a day,

i would say you would be better off employing one or two people, but i have no idea on the cost of telemarketing? how is it worked out? what do you get for your money?

James.

Ha ha.

Its always the same. When a campaign of ours goes well its because the reps we are booking for are great closers but when they're not closing its becuase the quality of our appointments is crap !

Thats marketing for you I suppose. You never get thanked when the going is good but get criticised when its not do good !

Pete

I remember one campaign we did who pulled the plug after a month because we only got them 2 appointments. They did have the humility to call back a year later when one of these "crap" appointments had morphed into a 50k deal... Turns out the thousand invested with us wasn't such a bad deal after all.

All over UKBF (and other places) are company's who are looking for a magic wand. They expect one telemarketer working on their behalf 3 days a month to compete with a rival company who's chucked a million pounds at a whole full time salesforce and another million for an SEO campaign.

This is why, telemarketing works with reasonable expectations and a long term outlook.
