    Hi ,

I am importing somw goods from India very soon, and I am confused regarding the sequence of events?

    1. Items shipped by supplier, with all documents required.
    2. Items arrive in the UK, held until payment of duty and VAT?
    3. Items released after payments recd.?

Can I expedite the process by paying online in advance? or even better,
is there some kind of post billing, where I receive the goods asap, and pay the duty and VAT later?

When do I have to fill out the SAD C88 form?

    Many thanks!

    Hi

You can clear the goods yourself but you will have to go to the port/airport of arrival and take the goods away after they havce been cleared by HMRC after submitting forms (C88/SAD) and paying the import duties.

Or you can engage a freight agent to do all this for you. They clear the goods and send to you. They pay the import duty/VAT charges and rebill them to you. You have to also pay them for the service!

    best regards

Definately go with an import agent who will do everything for you, they are experts in the field and will prevent any slip ups happening.
