Feeling down

Does anyone ever feel down when it comes to Business (bit of an obvious question).

I know it's a long road and I've had many ideas but when I find one which I really think will work and then people turn it down or say it's crap it's pretty demoralising. Also when you have a mindset that you will and want to become successful in Business and there's no other option (because you pretty much don't want one) and then your only good idea is pronounced as rubbish you get kinda worried. Mainly because without an idea I wont get anywhere and if I can't think of another one (or a good one), then I'm pretty much stuck where I am.

It's just so fustrating. You spend hours trying to think of an idea then suddenly someone develops an amazing idea or product which was so obvious and simple (like Youtube or that Parcelsafe product someone on here has made). It's just really difficult to think of completely unique and different topics. When something good appears like Youtube or Myspace you start to get ideas based around those concepts which aint really unique.

I've only ever had one good unique idea I think would work but to be honest it's too much of a job for me to handle. It would probably require millions for a fully automated line and years of development work with machinery and everything. If I ever do make a lot of money that would probably be my next project.

I guess I'll just have to soldier on.

It doesn't have to be a unique idea.

If I were you I'd start something simple like selling personalised keyrings online (no, it's not beneath you). It'd be a great way to get some real experience in starting and running a business.

I think your age is against you more than you might be willing to accept. Theres no subsitute for life experience and this is all part of being able to make a business work. I started at 19 and thought I knew it all (like everyone does at that age!) I was a director of a company employing about 12 people by the time I was 22 and I'm now 47. I've had some ups and downs since but I have to say hand on heart that I cringe when I think back how I was in those early years! That said, when young you have little fear and less to lose and I think you tend to "go for it" more. Seems to me, people are obsessed with "the big idea" and if this is the case, being disapointed, alot, comes with this mindset. Positive thinking is great as long as it is part of a package which includes all the other things. Positive thinking alone doesn't create success and it seems to me some people fall into the trap of thinking if they want it bad enough they'll get it. Just my opinion and theres others on here with far more experience than me who will probally have something to add

Scott, I know the feeling! I'm only 15 and you should've seen me when I first came on here; thought I knew it all, full of ideas. Have a search for some of my older threads and you'll see what I mean! Now I tend to take a back seat and listen very carefully to other members' problems and how they overcame them. There's a lot to be learned here, buddy.

I completely agree. There's a general rule of Business which many people swear by involving how if you want it bad enough you will get it. It makes the situation more optimistic but I also think it can get peoples hopes up, there is still a ton of work involved and high hopes alone won't get anybody very far.

The big idea theory is also something else which has been drilled into my head and probably into others. The buisness people in Dragons den also make a point of everything being unique or it's useless. I don't agree with this but when you have every other person telling you it makes you think twice if your theory is correct or not.

I just made this thread after my current idea (Myspace concept) being dissaproved because of numerous reasons. The sad thing is these reasons are pretty much correct. But there's just that remaining essence of determination which makes my think it would work. Maybe I'm just being blinded by confidence though, it's hard to tell.

I know it's difficult but you need to take emotions away out of the business. Lets say you were selling a product and made 50 calls and every single person said no to you, you'd feel like quitting. Who is to say that the 51st call wouldn't be a yes.

In reality thats the way business is. When you feel down the best cure is to push it to the back of your mind and start working on your business, sales, marketing or whatever, within a few minutes you will be absorbed back in your business.

Similarly when you are doing really well, don't let it go to your head, keep working on your business don't get complacent because you feel elated.

You are at a great age, as you don't yet have a mortgage or kids , so therefore have a lot less to lose than most other people.

Telemax-coming from a telemarketing background so agree, instead of seeing a no as a negative, its one step closer to a yes!

Reakt, its just the way of the world I am afraid. My website is due for launch in 3-5 weeks and its been brewing for 3-4 years seriously. I had the idea way before that but my kind ex shot it to pieces and she knows sweet FA about business so I let it rest but then gathered up momentum when I met the missus but even then I was too close to my baby and took offence when it was shot down or parts of it were ripped apart, its not easy but sometimes you need to step outside the box but someone on the outside can see things much clearly.

As for idea's if your anything like me once you start you will keep flowing, so I now have another website starting late Oct, house build (hopefully) Summer 2007 and the missus may also have a launch idea end of the year on top of her tile business. Naturally there will be angles which you miss due to your age and inexperience but at the same time it can be a benefit as you are an open mind and not subconciously restricted as some of the more experienced people are.
