Employing Staff

Hi Guys,

In the next 6 months or so i hope to be going down the route of employing staff. However i have no experience in doing so. I hope to employ part time staff 2 - 3 days a week.

What are peoples views on this? Providing i do my homework, will it be a
straightforward process?

I am a member of the FSB, i understand that they can help me in this process, anyone here ever used FSB to help them with the process of employoing staff?

Feel free to share any bad experiences!

You will need to do a number of things.

1. Recruit staff e.g. advertising for that.

2. Take time out to interview them, then decide who is the best one.

3. Tax procedures.

Make sure they are good staff and you will have people who you will absolutely love and become friends with and even socialize with.

If they are bad staff, they will be a liability and worst case industrial tribunal.

However be positive and things will be fine, just be conscious of everything.

If you intend to recruit staff, then do it yourself rather than rely on employment agencies.

Be concise in your advert wording what you are looking for and be mindful of not falling foul of discrimination laws, because you can be taken to a tribunal even on advert wording.

Be specific about qualifications and experience, but even more important than both of those is the employee's mindset and attitude towards work. Someone who is bursting with enthusiasm and willingness to learn is a better prospect than a highly qualified layabout in my opinion.

With your type of work you could even contact local colleges to see if they are interested in a free (for both parties) placement for a local young computer student.

This would of course be to supplement the hired personnel you seem to intend on bringing on as nothing beats quality, or experienced staff.

Sorry just my background as a former employability trainer coming out!

That's a good idea! Could be something i look into in the future! Would also help in establishing a brand and further awareness! Thanks.
